Oly North fifth-grade students recently wrapped up an engaging unit on Harry Potter with a creative and memorable hands-on activity—painting their very own wands. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Scrimager, each student received a 3D-printed wand modeled after a character of their choice. Students showcased their creativity as they hand-painted their wands, making each one truly unique. Throughout the unit, students were fully immersed in the story while learning in a classroom transformed with Harry Potter-themed decorations.

🌟 Spartan Spotlight! 🌟
We are proud to recognize several of our elementary students who were recently selected to receive the Kindness Award! These students consistently show care, respect, and compassion toward others. Whether it’s helping a classmate, including others in activities, or brightening someone’s day with a kind word, their actions help make our school a welcoming and supportive place for everyone.
Thank you for spreading kindness and being wonderful role models for your classmates! 💙👏

Fourth graders in Mrs. Stoud’s class are exploring how writing and artificial intelligence can work together! Students began by writing detailed descriptions of themselves. Their writing was then entered into Google Gemini, which used their words to generate a portrait.
Students quickly discovered that the more specific and detailed their descriptions were, the closer the portrait matched what they imagined. It was a fun and engaging way to practice descriptive writing while learning how AI responds to prompts.

Olympia will be using an e-Learning day today, Monday, March 16th due to very limited visibility throughout the district. Elementary students should work on their packets and OHMS students should login to their classes. Additional information will come from OHMS administrators and teachers.
The forecast shows snow and winds continuing through mid-morning. We anticipate after school activities will go on as scheduled but any changes will be communicated by coaches and sponsors.
Thank you.

❄️🏅 2nd grade at ONE turned into the Olympic Village today!🏅❄️
After spending the last week researching a winter Olympic country, learning the Olympic traditions and fun facts about their country, today students put it all to the test.
Students competed in their own mini Olympic events including curling, bobsledding, ski jump, hockey, and speed skating! Working in teams, they estimated and measured distances using centimeters, inches, and meters to see how far their “athletes” could go.
From powerful bobsled pushes to impressive ski jumps, our students showed great teamwork, problem-solving, and measurement skills throughout the games. It was incredible to watch them think like mathematicians while competing like Olympians!
Who knows, we might have some future Olympians among us! 🥇

Something mysterious happened at Olympia North tonight… 🕵️♀️🔍
Families stepped into the role of detectives during our Family Mystery Engagement Night, working together to crack clues, solve puzzles, and explore learning across the building. From decoding secret messages to building different structures and examining fingerprints in the STEM lab, to sketching suspects in the suspect room and reading mystery passages to uncover evidence, our young detectives used their brains and teamwork to solve the case!
Throughout the evening, students and families collected clues, solved challenges, and discovered that reading, science, creativity, and problem-solving all play a part in cracking a mystery.
Thank you to all of the families who joined us for a night full of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. And a huge thank you to our staff and volunteers who helped bring the mystery to life! Special shoutout to our ISU athletes who took time out of their night to bring a little mystery magic to North!
The case may be closed… but the love of learning is still wide open. Until next time, detectives!

Paging all surgeons! Paging all 2nd graders to the Oly North Hospital! Today 2nd graders at ONE spent the afternoon in the operating room—but instead of treating people, students were busy saving nonfiction texts!
Students took on the role of “text feature surgeons” as they sought to strengthen their understanding of nonfiction text features. Each group met a series of “patients” who showed different “symptoms” of confusion while reading. To help them recover, students had to carefully diagnose the problem and prescribe the right “text feature medicine" as well as find evidence of that text feature in a real-life nonfiction text.
Using their knowledge of headings, captions, diagrams, labels, photographs, and other nonfiction tools, students determined which text features would best help a reader understand the information. They explained their thinking, located the correct features, and successfully “treated” each patient.
With the help of this hands-on experience, students were able to put their knowledge to work and see how text features support comprehension while building teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The room was filled with excitement as students applied their learning in a creative way—and proved they have what it takes to be expert “text feature surgeons”!
