Civil War Era Sword

On Monday, some of the World History & U.S. History students at OHMS were treated to a visit from an ISU Archivist, Ms. April Anderson-Zorn. The university archivist shared her job duties and experiences with students. She is primarily involved with preserving artifacts of local history and assisting with historical research at the university. At the end of the visit, MS & HS students were given an opportunity to hold two Civil War Era Swords that belonged to Brigadier General Charles Hovey, who served as Illinois State University's first president. A truly "historical" experience!

Ms. Anderson-Zorn also met with our OHS students who are members of the new Archive Club. Archive Club will be working to help preserve Olympia's history. The club meets once a month and will be tasked with organizing, archiving, and preserving artifacts related to our school's history.
