I'm Mary Karns, the 3rd-5th grade special education teacher at North. I'd like to share a bit of my background, so you can get to know me a little better. This is my 16th year teaching special education at Olympia North. I am a New Yorker at heart, although my husband's Army and civilian carriers have moved us overseas and within the U.S. I received my B.S. in Speech Pathology at Syracuse University and later, in-between moves and while raising my children, I had the opportunity to earn my M.A. in Educational Leadership at Western Michigan University and, finally, my post-graduate certification in Special Education at Illinois State University. My husband, Philip, and I now live in Bloomington, IL with our poodle, Patton, and cat, Rory. We have two grown children, Bridget, an Army Lawyer in Wiesbaden, Germany and Ryan, a photographer in Normal, Il. The things I love best are spending time with my family, including my pets, teaching, reading, shopping, traveling, and interior decorating.
As always, I'm looking very forward to working with your child and being a part of his or her academic career. I have an open door policy and, please, see my contact information below.
