The OHS Scholastic Bowl team has been diligently practicing since the beginning of the school year and continue their training as they set their sites on State.

Scholastic Bowl remains a staple of academic competition for those looking for an opportunity to better their wits. The nature of Scholastic Bowl is fast-paced and fairly random in regard to its tendency to catch competitors off guard, both with vague wording in the initial bits of the questions and in the stark differences in the subject.

Considering the influx of new Scholastic Bowl members this year, the prospects of improvement seem abundant. The members have worked diligently to improve their mental dexterity, in all fields of knowledge including mathematics, history, pseudoscience, chemistry, and various other areas of understanding.

Abraham Bishop, a sophomore in Scholastic Bowl, commented on the inner workings of the team, stating that he feels the team has been doing great so far this year and has shown much improvement. He goes on to say, “I’m very glad to see everyone on the team getting along.”

It is very promising to hear this team is so collaborative seeing as they are in an academic group where it is not inherently necessary to engage in cooperation, and much less necessary to get along.

Senior and a new member of the team Lillian Winkeler has also been reached for comment, saying, “I’m really impressed with how it’s going. We won our first competition and yeah, that’s pretty good.”

On more than one occasion, members of the team stay consistent in their description of the group’s experience. Lillian furthers the theme of cooperation and an overall improvement in her response, putting forth a strong presence for the 2019-2020 Scholastic Bowl team.

This Scholastic Bowl team has been full of apparent challenges, such as newcomers to the group and obvious struggles in simply relying on one’s own recollection and charisma skills. The team has already won their first event and hope to continue to surprise and dazzle in their competition.
